First, Sidney is a female :) I explained the basics about how our JUG operates and such, and then mentioned the BarCamp option. The timing of BarCamp, and the larger crowd & scope worked better for her, and in my opinion I felt like it would be better/easier for us too. Details: Sidney said they are flexible with presentations and could possibly do another one, too. Sounds like they fly someone out from Arizona or Mountain View. They will probably be able to provide food & snacks for the event. I speculated that we'd have BarCamp in late July, which sounded good to her (they only do a couple of these sorts of things per month). As we talk to Calvin to work out the dates for BarCamp, we'll contact her again and start working out more details. I've cross-posted this to the JUG leadership & BarCamp organizers list. For starting our planning on BarCamp, lets continue that on the barcamp-organizers@ list. That's not to say you can't reply to just the JUG admin or to both though :) Dave Brondsema wrote: > You are a member of the Grand Rapids Java Users Group mailing list. = > Please see the bottom of this message for information on unsubscription/c= ustomizing your preferences. > -------------------------------------- > = > = > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > = > I emailed Sidney yesterday to let him know we were discussing and that > I'd call him soon. > = > I think the answers to his questions are pretty straightforward. Anyway, I might be able to contribute name tags if you want some nice ones. I made this sample last year, but it was too late to show anyone: http://www.demaagd.com/gr/bc_name_tag.jpg It was made from 1" x 3" stock, I can get or make different shapes if desired, though maybe not with the bevel on the edges. The bevels are a feature of pre-cut blanks. Last year you talked about metalworking, right? And that picture looks like metal. Are you talking about metal namebadges then? Sorry for any confusion. And where/how would the name go on it? Thanks, that pic looks great, pretty classy. Thank you. Most of my work is with metal, but that example is plastic, with possibly a very thin metal foil on the surface. The foil burns off with a laser engraver with some spectacular sparkling effects. Shortly after the last BarCamp, I had taken delivery of a laser engraver. I made that in some early experimentation to learn what materials I can use. I think the logo was chosen was because it was the highest resolution logo that I could find. I think the *very* first thing is to decide who is organizing and make sure they're on this list. I will help organize, and I'm pretty sure Kyle Adams will too. Does anyone else on this list want to help? I'd like to send the following message to the barcampers list (those who signed up for last year). Let me know if you think it's okay. Subject: BarCampGrandRapid2! Body: Hey barcampers! After the great fun we had last year, we're starting to plan a second BarCampGrandRapids to be held sometime this summer. If you'd like to help organize it, hop on the organizers list (via http://www.gr-jug.org/mailman/listinfo/barcamp-organizers) and say hi. P.S. It's likely that we will have someone from Google giving a presentation at BarCamp :) -- = Dave Brondsema : dave@brondsema.net http://www.brondsema.net : personal http://www.splike.com : programming <>< -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
