If it had been a weekday affair, she could have been more active in promoting it among her developers because she could give them time off work to attend. Which got me thinking... Should we do BarCamp as a weekday thing this year? Do we want to bill it as "work-related conference worth time away from actual work" or "gathering of people who enjoy doing this stuff so much they'd sacrifice a weekend"? Do you think BarCamp is the kind of thing employers would "send" their employees to -- without requesting they use vacation time? Either way some people are going to be excluded due to scheduling. I'm checking on my availability for Aug 15/16, but I'm in again as an organizer. What I'd like to do is delegate the stuff I've handled in previous years a bit more, so I can do a little more enjoying the conference and a little less running around doing everything at once. Here are the tasks I'd like to delegate (ideally to different people): 1) Printing and posting of signs on the first day of the conference (I can still design). This person would be responsible for printing the signs, working with the venue to work out the best places/ways to post the signs, and then actually arriving early and getting the signs into place before attendees begin arriving. 2) Registration and conference badges. This person would handle printing out the conference badges (as with signs, I can still assist with the design) and then manning the registration table at check-in. It would be nice to have a laptop and printer on site to print off additional badges for folks that didn't pre-register. 3) Food. This is the biggest task, so I'd like to tag-team it with someone. Ideally it would be someone interested in organizing BarCamp for the next several years. This year could be a "training" year to give the volunteer a chance to get acquainted with our budget, menu planning, and the actual acquisition of the food before I turn over the task 100%.
