I have been debating on doing a presentation on Eclipse and RCP. Eclipse is undoubtedly, the most widely used IDE for Java and RCP is the Rich Client Platform that Eclipse is built upon. I don't think that I would be able to do both topics justice in one so I would like to expand it to two. The first meeting would be an overview of Eclipse and how to use it. We would go over fundamentals like Views, Perspectives, Starting a Project, Compiling, Short Cut Keys and things of that nature. The second meeting, we will actually build on what we learned about Eclipse to build an application based on RCP. Due to the time constraints, this is going to be a simple application but it should give us something that would allow us to get our feet wet working with RCP. Please let me know if this is something that the group is interested in learning / hearing about. If there is enough interest, I will move forward and start planning the presentations. Also, if you would like to help with the presentations in any way, please let me know. It compiles to JVM and CLR bytecode and offers alot of much needed redesign to syntax that both Java and C# suffer from. It brings in alot of great concepts from functional and object oriented programming languages into a single syntax which is quite "cool" to say the least. I haven't used it for anything outside of toying around so I don't know how applicable it is to real world problems. One thing it seems to lack is a nice facility for reflection, but so does Java and C#. A limitation of the language and the JVM or a limitation of it's implementation?
